COMPUTING

Computing education equips children to understand and change the world through logical thinking and creativity, including making links with mathematics, science and design technology. The core of computing is computer science, in which children are taught the principles of information and computation and how digital systems work. Children are also taught to develop their digital literacy, which enables them to use and express themselves and develop ideas through, information and communication technology. Digital Wisdom is a constant thread running through the progressive computing curriculum and develops children’s awareness and ability to keep themselves safe as active participants in a digital world. The children learn to use our wide range of modern technical equipment, including computers, to enhance their learning across all areas of the curriculum. We see ICT as an important tool to enable and enhance learning and not as a discrete subject. It is used in virtually all subjects, with skills being taught as and when needed for a particular task. ICT is a very important tool in the development of personalised learning. The school has a well-appointed computer room, laptops, electronic microscopes, hand held video recorders and digital cameras. We also use an electronic library system to monitor children’s reading. Each class has an interactive whiteboard or LCD interactive television, which provides a stimulating method to present information and learning opportunities for the children. We also have connectivity to fibre optic broadband which again provides learning opportunities and resources.
